You may not have realized that the program you’ve been considering working with might fall under this umbrella, but all employees for our intermediate unit are part of an LEA (local education authority). Please review the information on this page carefully.

Act 168 – Background History

You cannot be officially offered your position until you have properly completed and submitted the Act 168 Background History packet. There is an explanation of the requirements with the packet that you will find in the file list, below. Key points – you must submit a complete summary sheet that includes all current employers and any past employer that fits the description provided. You must also submit one Disclosure form for each employer on the list, with the address information completed (email addresses help make the process move more quickly) and all of section 1 completed. Section 1 is on two pages. Do not do anything with section three – that part we will take care of. Submit all the documentation to Michele Huntsman, you may send it as an email attachment, if you want, to mhuntsman@tiu11.org, or send by mail or fax.

Pre-employment Requirements

All candidates must provide valid background certificate, also called clearances, on or before their start date. You may bring the completed clearances with you to your welcome meeting. For your Federal Criminal History report, you must provide your registration number at the meeting and have already gone for fingerprinting, prior to that. All candidates must also have a physical and a current Tb test, reported on the School Health Form that can be downloaded, below. The Tb test should have been completed with in the 90 days prior to submitting the form. The balance of the physical may have been completed up to one year prior to the start date.

Welcome and Orientation Documentation

All documents in the table can be downloaded from the list at the bottom of the page. Clearances can be obtained by following the links in the table. If you have not completed Mandated Reporter Training, the TIU offers the required training monthly, or you may be able to complete this on-line. If you are working with students regularly (for example, teachers, aides, cooks, STEM staff, social workers, home visitors, or similar), this must be completed when hired. Other employees, that have limited or no direct contact with students, must complete this within 60 days of their start date. All candidates must also have a physical and a current Tb test, reported on the School Health Form that can be downloaded, below. I-9 completion – Verify that the form is filled out completely and that appropriate valid documentation is provided. Documentation may be anything as indicated on the list provided in the I-9 form and must be copied and retained with the I-9.

Payroll Confirmation of Name and SSN – Please provide your social security card for legal name and number verification. If your name does not match, or your name changes later, you will be required to submit a copy of a new card with your legal name on it. If you do not have your social security card, please obtain a new copy from the government!

This training may contain content that addresses sensitive topics related to child abuse and neglect, including but not limited to physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. The employee portal provides access for employees to review and print pay stubs, review and request updates for personal information in the personnel systems, and if appropriate to request absences, and to submit timesheets. Supervisors also have access to approve employee requests, and review absences for planning purposes.

Portal Instructions are available including various portal features, since not all employees have access to the same tabs.

Retirement Participation & Act 29Required

You will receive information from PSERS about 6 to 9 weeks after you start working if you are new to that system. You will have choices to make about your retirement participation and to designate your beneficiary. this is time sensitive, so please be sure to review the information when it arrives. If you are working part time, you may not get a mailing until you have met the participation hours requirement.

Only eligible to be enrolled in PSERS once you’ve reached 500 hours or 80 days.

   
Notification of 403B TPAoptionalTax Deferred Savings Plan – optional, supplemental retirement plan, contributions are made through payroll withholding with pretax dollars. You can start a 403b account at any time, make changes to it as needed but most importantly – ALL employees are eligible to contribute to their 403b plan.
