SUPERINTENDENT – Mount Union Area School District

The Mount Union Area School District is a rural and suburban, academically progressive school district based in Mount Union, Pennsylvania. The district serves students in portions of Huntingdon and Mifflin Counties.
The successful Superintendent candidate should possess the following key attributes:
- Utilize district data to promote an aggressive change agenda.
- Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work with local community members to advance an academic agenda.
- Strong technology skills, including knowledge of implementing technology programs in schools.
- A strong knowledge of teacher and administrative assessments, including the ability to serve as a professional development trainer for district initiatives.
- Proven experience in leading high-quality administrative and faculty teams.
- A strong budget and finance background.
- Have an aptitude for working in a culturally diverse community with a wide range of socioeconomic levels.
- Lead, manage, and coach district leaders; demonstrate leadership skills that have motivated others to assume leadership roles.
- Drive organizational excellence through a demonstrated record of improving academic performance and instructional leadership.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the district’s budget, aligned with system-wide goals and major initiatives.
- Salary range $120,000 to $135,000 based on education and experience.

About Mount Union Area School District
The Mount Union Area School District encompasses approximately 151 square miles of rural central Pennsylvania. The district has a population of approximately 9,700 citizens in five boroughs and three townships. Two elementary buildings and one junior-senior high school serve approximately 1,100 students.
Mount Union/Kistler, and Shirley Township Elementary Schools (Grades K-5) have a combined enrollment of approximately 553 students; Mount Union Junior High (Grades 6-8) and Senior High School (Grades 9-12) has approximately 547 students.

The secondary schools provide educational programs to meet the needs and goals of all students including advanced courses through Juniata College and Penn Highlands Community College, as well as technical and high-tech training at the Huntingdon County Career & Technology Center.
Community support of successful interscholastic sports teams and fine arts programs has been a consistent source of pride. Student government, numerous clubs, and community service projects enable students to broaden the scope of their educational experience.
The School District
An outstanding staff and dedicated professionals, aided by parent volunteers, booster clubs, and PTOs, work diligently and creatively to make the Mission Statement a reality.
The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit provides education services to Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, and Mifflin County Schools.
The Community
The Mount Union Area School District is both rural and suburban. It is considered part of Raystown Country, home of the largest man made lake in Pennsylvania. Residents enjoy Huntingdon and Mifflin Counties beautiful scenery, its state parks, trout-stocked streams, caves to explore, trails to hike and bike, and some of the best hunting and fishing in the state. Raystown Country’s heritage is rich with farming, mining, railroading, automotive and other history; including museums and five historic districts. School programs, including sporting activities, have been a focal point for the community.
Most community services are located within the district, including a medical center, restaurants, shopping, and banking. Local hospitals and a variety of shopping opportunities are within easy commute of the Mount Union Area School District. Two daily newspapers provide local news to serve the district. Additional regional and area radio and television stations serve the community with programs to suit varied interests.
